Today, A special two-day session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly will begin in Mumbai. The first day will witness the election of Speaker, while the Eknath Shinde government will face floor test tomorrow.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will move the motion of confidence on the floor of the House. Mr. Shinde asserts that 170 MLAs support him. The rebel Shiv Sena MLAs returned to Mumbai from Goa yesterday evening for the special assembly session.
The chief minister had flown to Goa early in the morning and later accompanied the MLAs on their return to Mumbai. The election to the post of Maharashtra assembly Speaker is likely to witness a direct contest between Rahul Narvekar of BJP and Ranjan Salvi of Maha Vikas Aghadi.
As per media reports, A joint meeting of the BJP and Rebel Shiv Sena MLAs was held at a hotel in Mumbai last night. The meeting started shortly after the rebel MLAs arrived from Goa last evening. The Sena MLAs were out of the state since the Legislative Council polls held on 20th of last month. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde personally visited Goa to accompany all these MLAs back to Mumbai.
In the joint meeting of BJP and rebel MLAs the strategy to go about in a two-day session was discussed at length. BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed all the MLAs. Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena has issued a whip directing all their MLAs to vote for Rajan Salvi the Maha Vikas Aghadi candidate who is pitted against Rahul Narvekar of the BJP.
