As per the media sources, Large parts of north India, including Delhi and Haryana, are reeling from severe heatwave conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert till May 24 due to heatwave to severe heatwave conditions in the national capital. On May 20, temperatures in several parts of Delhi breached the 47 degrees Celsius mark. Temperatures remained above 45 degrees Celsius in large parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh.

According to media, The Delhi government has directed schools that have not closed for summer vacations to do so with immediate effect. In a circular, the city government’s Directorate of Education said all schools were directed to observe summer vacation from May 11 to June 30 for this academic year. The Punjab government announced summer holidays in all government, aided and private schools from May 21 to June 30 amid severe heatwave conditions.

Severe heatwave will be affecting areas of the north India in the coming days as per weather department forecast. The Met Department said that severe heat is expected to affect several regions, including Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, West Rajasthan, parts of East Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, and West Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. In response, the Rajasthan Health Department has been placed on high alert, with measures in place to aid those impacted by the extreme heat.

As per the reports, The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh, for heat wave which is expected to persist for several days. Heatwave conditions are also forecasted for Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra, and Kutch.Temperatures have risen significantly, exceeding normal levels by 5.1 degrees or more in areas such as Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Bihar. Amid the sweltering heat, several state governments have mandated temporary school closures due to extreme heat, while also offering the alternative of online classes.
