According to media reports, news agency ANI files Rs 2 Cr. Defamation Suit against Wikipedia. ANI not only seeks removal of the content but Rs. 2 crores as damages from Wikipedia. As per media report on this matter Delhi High Court issues summons to Wikipedia. Justice Navin Chawla has issued a notice on ANI’s plea seeking interim relief in the suit and listed the matter for hearing next on August 20. Appearing on behalf of ANI, advocate Siddharth Kumar told the court that the content that is mentioned in the description is defamatory.
Wiki’s page states “ANI has been criticized for having served as a propaganda tool for the incumbent central Govt”. and also says “ANI distributes materials from a vast network of fake news websites & even misreports events”.
