According to Media Sources, In a swiftly conducted Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation at midnight on Wednesday, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ship evacuated a 21-year-old Indian fisherman (Thiru. Cheeranjeevi) from IFB Sengalamman (Tamil Nadu Registered) who had sustained thirty percent second-degree burn on left arm and left leg in position at 183 km East of Kakinada. At 1400 hrs on August 6, the Assistant Director of Fisheries, Chennai, informed Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Chennai regarding a medical emergency on board IFB Sengalamman which had set out from Chennai for fishing with 12 crew members on-board.
As Per Media Sources, On receipt of the information, ICG Ship Samudra Paheredar, which was on patrol, was immediately diverted for assistance. Meanwhile, ICG Station Kakinada was alerted to arrange necessary medical assistance for the patient on arrival at Kakinada. At 2230 hrs on August 6, ICG Ship Samudra Paheredar arrived on the scene and evacuated the patient along with two attendants from the IFB. The Medical Officer on board ICG Ship Samudra Paheredar provided initial medical treatment to the patient. After stabilizing the patient, ICG Ship Samudra Paheredar transferred the patient and the attendants to ICG Ship C-430 for onward passage to Kakinada. The Ship entered Kakinada at 0800 hrs on the same day and the patient was transferred to Government Hospital Kakinada for further medical care. Timely medical evacuation underscores ICG’s commitment to assistance to fishermen in distress, aligning with its motto ‘Vayam Rakshamah,’ meaning ‘WE PROTECT.
