According to Media Sources, PM Narendra Modi touched down in Poland on Wednesday, commencing his two-nation tour during which he will also travel to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. During his visit to Ukraine, Modi is set to engage with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, exchanging views on finding a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict in the country.
As Per Media Sources, PM Modi has met his Polish counterpart on four occasions in the latter’s earlier capacity as the President of the European Council. He also had a telephonic conversation with President Duda in March 2022, thanking him for the assistance provided by Poland in the evacuation of Indian citizens from Ukraine and for the special gesture of relaxing visa requirements for Indian citizens crossing over to Poland from the conflict zone. More than 4000 Indian students were evacuated via Poland in 2022.
MEA Secretary (West) Tanmaya Lal described the visit as “historic,” underscoring the longstanding relationship between the two countries. During his stay, PM Modi will meet with Poland’s leadership, interact with the Indian community, and receive a ceremonial welcome in Warsaw before proceeding to Ukraine.
