Paris Paralympics Day 5: Yogesh Kathuniya wins silver in men’s Discus throw F56 final

According to media sources, On Day 5 of the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024 has begun with a positive note for India as Yogesh Kathuniya clinches silver in men’s discus throw F56 final, taking the country’s overall tally to 8 medals.

Meanwhile the country’s Para-shuttler Thulasimathi Murugesan assured one more medal. Murugesan reached the finals of Women’s Singles SU5 badminton event, securing her place with a victory over compatriot Manisha Ramadass. The top-seed from Tamil Nadu, triumphed with scores of 23-21, 21-17 in the semifinal yesterday. After this win, Murugesan has guaranteed herself at least a silver medal. She will face China’s Yang Qiuxia in the final.

Following her semifinal defeat, Ramadass will compete for the bronze medal against Denmark’s Cathrine Rosengren. The SU-5 category caters to athletes with impairments affecting the upper limbs, whether in the playing or non-playing hand.

In Para Archery, World No.1 para-archer Rakesh Kumar narrowly missed the bronze medal in the men’s individual compound open. Despite starting with a perfect 30 , he lost to China’s He Zihao by just one point, 147-146.

In Para Shooting, Shooters Nihal Singh and Amir Ahmad Bhat will be in action in P3 – mixed 25m pistol SH1 qualification precision. On other hand Badminton stars Suhas Yathiraj and Nitesh Kumar will be competing in their respective gold medal matches.
