According to media sources, Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat chaired a Tourism Ministers’ conference at Shillong in Meghalaya yesterday. Tourism Ministers from the North Eastern, Eastern States, and Union Territories participated in the conference.
Mr. Shekhawat said, for the overall growth and development of tourism in the country, the Ministry is convening a series of meetings to bring in more collaboration with all States and UTs.
This was the 3rd meeting in the series. Earlier meetings were held in Chandigarh and Goa.
The Union Minister said, these meetings will focus on developing iconic tourist destinations globally, enhancing alternative destinations, and improving marketing, safety, connectivity, cleanliness, and ease of doing business in the sector. He further added that the tourism industry is looking for investments from private players for a greater push as part of Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The Minister also highlighted several government initiatives including the Swadesh Darshan scheme and Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) scheme. The Minister called on states to submit proposals for tourism development in various sectors.
The Union Minister will visit to chair a review meeting with the state and district level officers in South West Khasi Hills district today.
