Health Secretary Apurva Chandra releases annual publication Health Dynamics of India 2022-23 in New Delhi

According to media sources, Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra today released the annual publication Health Dynamics of India (Infrastructure and Human Resources) 2022-23 in New Delhi. The publication offers comprehensive data on health infrastructure and human resources as of March 31st of each year. This data is important for stakeholders in the health sector, as it supports effective planning, monitoring, and management of health infrastructure across the country.

On the Occasion, Mr Chandra stated that the annual publication is a valuable document furnishing much needed information on manpower and infrastructure within National Health Mission. He said that the data is immensely helpful in understanding the requirements of the states, their priority areas and formulating policies and targeted campaigns.

Union Health Secretary also pointed at the need to integrate the Health Management Information System (HMIS) Portal with Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) and other portals of the Ministry. This will help to reduce the burden of work of health functionaries and to ensure that the data are uploaded timely and analysed carefully.

According to the publication, as of March 31st last year, the country has more than 1 lakh 69 thousand Sub-Centres, approximately 32,000 Primary Health Centres, and 6,359 Community Health Centres, serving both rural and urban populations. Additionally, there are 1,340 Sub-Divisional and District Hospitals, 714 District Hospitals, and 362 Medical Colleges.

As per the Publication, these healthcare infrastructure is supported by more than 239,000 Health Workers at Sub-Centres, around 41,000 Doctors and Medical Officers at Primary Health Centres, and over 26,000 Specialists and Medical Officers at Community Health Centres. The Sub-Divisional and District Hospitals are staffed by 45,027 Doctors and Specialists. Moreover, there are approximately 48,000 Staff Nurses at Primary Health Centres, more than 51,000 Nursing Staff at Community Health Centres, and over 135,000 Paramedical Staff at Sub-Divisional and District Hospitals across the country.
