According to media sources, Government has authorised the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to perform Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis for establishing the identity of candidates during the various stages of the examination. The Department of Personnel and Training has allowed SSC to perform Aadhaar authentication of the candidates at the time of their registration on the One Time Registration portal and at various stages of examination and recruitment tests conducted by the commission.
In a gazette notification, the Ministry of Personnel has asked SSC to adhere to all the relevant provisions of the Act and rules and regulations made by the Unique Identification Authority of India. The development comes in the wake of several reported cases of fraud, malpractice, and unfair means adopted by candidates to clear the competitive examinations.
