According to media sources, The Embassy of India in Riyadh has successfully concluded its participation in the nationwide Swachchta Hi Seva campaign, a cleanliness and sanitation initiative aligned with the broader Swachh Bharat Mission. The two-week campaign, running from September 17 to October 2, saw active involvement from embassy officials, staff, and members of the Indian community in Saudi Arabia.

The campaign kicked off with the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree for Mother) movement, which resulted in the planting of over 1,500 saplings in the Chancery premises, demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. Throughout the campaign, a selfie point became a popular attraction, encouraging families to pledge their commitment to cleanliness while capturing memorable moments.

Community engagement was a key focus of the initiative. The Embassy conducted door-to-door awareness campaigns to spread the message of cleanliness and hygiene. Indian Community Schools in Riyadh hosted Swachhata Quizzes, promoting awareness about waste management and sustainability among students. These schools also organized art exhibitions and competitions with eco-themes, inspiring conversations about nature and environmental responsibility.

Embassy members took a hands-on approach to hygiene by actively participating in cleaning toilets, ensuring safe and sanitary spaces for all. The campaign also featured a human chain to popularize the Swachhata movement, visually representing the unity and collective effort towards cleanliness.

Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dr Suhel Ajaz Khan said “The Swachchta Hi Seva campaign has fostered a sense of collective responsibility among our community. We’re committed to sustaining this momentum and making cleanliness a way of life.”

A special yoga session titled “Swachhata from Soul to Surroundings” was conducted, connecting participants with nature through mindful practice. On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, officials gathered to sing the Swachhata Anthem, their voices harmonizing in a collective commitment to cleanliness. The Embassy also screened a Swachhata movie, showcasing global efforts in cleanliness and inspiring the local community.

The campaign culminated in a Mass Shramdaan activity on October 1, where volunteers worked tirelessly to clean the Embassy premises. This collective effort resulted in the segregation and disposal of over 4,000 kg of scrap, transforming the Embassy grounds and demonstrating the power of community action.

The Swachchta Hi Seva campaign witnessed significant participation, including from Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Awardees. Notable outcomes included a visible reduction in litter, increased awareness of waste segregation, and improved understanding of personal and public hygiene.
