R.G. Kar Case: 7 WBJDF Doctors Continue Hunger Strike in Kolkata with 10-Point Demands

According to media sources, Seven protesting doctors from West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front WBJDF are still on hunger strike at a central Kolkata Mancha with a 10-point demands in connection with the brutal rape and murder at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital recently.

One of the protesting doctors Aniket Mahato was admitted to the CCU of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on Thursday night after getting seriously ill. His physical condition is said to be stable now. Another protesting doctor Anushtup Mukherjee fell ill at central Kolkata mancha last night and has been admitted at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital.

Meanwhile, among the two protesting junior doctors in North Bengal, one doctor, Alok Verma’s condition had deteriorated yesterday and he was admitted to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. Only one doctor is now on hunger strike there. In support and solidarity with the protesting junior doctors, senior doctors from Joint Platform of Doctors JPD, West Bengal have decided to go on a 48-hour cease-work from 6 AM tomorrow. Emergency services will be kept outside the programme.

West Bengal unit of Indian Medical Association is observing a symbolic hunger strike programme today. Parents of the R G Kar victim are also observing a ‘no-cook’ day.  BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar said, West Bengal BJP extends its full support to the Junior Doctors’ Front in their agitation against the Mamata Banerjee Govt.
