According to media sources, New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi today said that the government is working towards generating 500 Gigawatts (GW) of power and energy through non-fossil fuels by 2030. Addressing the 3rd India Energy Transition Summit in New Delhi, Mr Joshi asserted that the demand for energy is expected to double in the coming years and nearly fifty percent of the requirement is expected to be met by renewable energy. He highlighted that 8.5 lakh solar panels have already been installed out of the planned one crore under PM Surya Ghar Yojna. Further, Mr Joshi noted that in the last ten years, the country’s installed renewable capacity has surged by almost 200 percent from 75.52 Gigawatts in 2014 to 220 Gigawatts today. During the event, the Minister also released the FICCI’s ‘Powering India’s Energy Transition’ report.
