According to media sources, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has said that the impact of Artificial Intelligence on ordinary citizens must be a central point of the AI regulatory regime. Addressing a book release function in New Delhi this evening, Mr. Dhankhar stressed the need for enforceable rights to protect citizens from AI, such as the right to explanation and the right to contest automated decisions. He said the system must provide automatic, inbuilt relief to ordinary citizens. The Vice President said Artificial Intelligence compels us to re-examine the existing jurisprudence. Mr. Dhankhar said that we must assert India’s cyber sovereignty, but we must be aligned with global standards. He said all stakeholders will have to come on one platform to create a global, rule-based order in Artificial Intelligence. The Vice President said India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act is a landmark step, but it now has to evolve in tandem with Artificial Intelligence regulation.
