According to media sources, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda has emphasised for regular safety audits in healthcare facilities to prevent and reduce disasters. The Minister stated this while addressing the inaugural session of the two-day second National Workshop organised in New Delhi on Health Sector Disaster Preparedness and Fire Safety in Healthcare Facilities. Mr Nadda said that the government is making efforts to make healthcare institutions and facilities disaster resilient and resistant. He said that while providing uninterrupted, comprehensive and quality healthcare is necessary, to to keep into account the preventive aspect in case of disaster. Mr Nadda said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also stressed on the need of regular fire safety audits of institutions and to prevent disasters before they occur. Mr Nadda also highlighted the need for capacity building and sensitization of all cadres of personnel working in health facilities in public as well as private sectors at all levels of the healthcare delivery system.
The Health Minister also suggested to the States and Union Territories to observe fire safety weeks and conduct mock drill at district level and also impart training to the health workers to meet the challenges of disaster.
On the occasion, Mr Nadda also launched the Integrated Government Online training (iGOT) modules on ‘Fire Safety in Healthcare Facilities. Speaking on the occasion, Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava also underlined considering the onset of summer, it is important to focus on fire safety in hospitals.
Member, National Disaster Management Authority, Rajendra Singh and Director General, Directorate General of Health Services Sunita Sharma was also present in the event.
