President Murmu calls upon stakeholders to address issue of communication disorder

According to media sources, President Droupadi Murmu called upon AIISH to be innovative and develop technologies and mechanisms to address the issue of communication disorder. She was speaking at the Diamond Jubilee celebration of All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, AIISH, in Mysuru today. Appreciating the efforts of the Institute in its area of expertise, the President said that the institute which also has a Centre of Excellence must work with other research institutes, start ups and involve its former students to address the issues of speech language pathology and hearing disability. The institute can play an active role in formulating national policies for those suffering from hearing loss and speech disorders. The President underscored the need to make India self-sufficient in the area of Cochlear implant treatment. She spoke about Sugam Bharat Abhiyan that aims at providing equal opportunities to people with hearing and speech problems. She mentioned the Inclusive Therapy park in AIISH working in the area of communication disorder redressal and the AIISH Arogya vaani that is making efforts to sensitise the society about people suffering from speech and hearing problems. The President also talked about Sanketic Basha Diwas observed on September 23 to create awareness about such people. The Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and Chief Minister in the state Siddaramaiah, Karnataka Health and Family Welfare minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel will be present on this occasion.
