Madras High Court Constitutes SIT to Probe TVK Rally Stampede, 41 Dead

According to media sources, The Madras High Court has constituted a special investigation team to probe the stampede incident at the TVK rally. Expressing agony and anguish over the death of 41 people in the TVK rally, the Court was critical of the State Government for failing to take stringent action against those responsible. Asra Garg, the Inspector General of Police, North Zone, has been appointed to head the SIT, which has been ordered to commence investigations immediately.

Justice N.Senthil Kumar passed the orders today. He strongly condemned TVK for floating the conditions for the event. The Court also questioned the failure of the Police to register criminal cases against those responsible for accidents involving two-wheelers. The State Public Prosecutor said that five individuals, including the General Secretary Bussy Anand and Deputy General Secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar, were named in the FIR. Of the two, one has been arrested.
