According to media sources, The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is undertaking the base revision exercise of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).
The proposed substitution will replace factories that have not reported data in the last three months due to permanent closure or changes in their production lines. The exercise forms part of a broader IIP base revision initiative, in which MoSPI is reviewing methodologies, exploring new data sources, and incorporating inputs from experts, academicians, government departments, and other stakeholders. The discussion paper, titled Substitution of Factories in the Compilation of the Index of Industrial Production, is available on the MoSPI website and comments can be sent to iipcso@nic.in by November 25.
