According to media sources, the Government has proposed to discontinue cash payments at all National Highway fee plazas across the country from April 1 this year to create a fully digital tolling ecosystem and strengthen operational efficiency.
According to media reports, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) stated that all toll payments will be processed exclusively through digital modes such as FASTag and UPI, enhancing ease of commuting by improving lane throughput, reducing congestion at toll plazas, and ensuring greater transparency at over 1,150 fee plazas on National Highways and Expressways.
