According to Media Sources, At least seven people were killed and over 70 workers were affected after an ammonia gas leak today at a seafood export facility in Periyapalayam, Tamil Nadu. Preliminary reports warn the death toll may rise as rescue and medical operations continue. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), supported by specialised Chemical, Biological and Nuclear response teams, launched immediate rescue efforts and worked to contain the leak while following strict safety protocols.
As Per Media Sources, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has ordered a high-level inquiry and set up a three-member committee to submit its report within 24 hours, saying those responsible will be brought to justice. He also announced an ex gratia payment of two lakh rupees for the family of each deceased.
