New Delhi: Taking a major step forward in the field of environment management, a state-of-the-art Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) of 4 Million Litre Per Day capacity was inaugurated at SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) by Ms. Soma Mondal, Chairman, SAIL on 13th October 2022.
Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge, RSP, Mr. S R Suryawanshi, ED (Works), Mr. P K Satapathy, ED (P&A), Mr. P K Sahoo, ED (Projects), Mr. S Tripathy, ED (MM), Dr. B K Hota, ED (M&HS), Mr. A K Behuria, CGM In charge (F&A) and other Senior Officers of the Plant were present on the occasion. The cost of the project is Rs 14.91 crore.
The Chairman switched on the facility to start the operation of the plant. She was explained about the working and process of the plant on the occasion.
It is noteworthy that the STP has been set up to treat the Sewage generated from the toilets of the different units of RSP and being discharged through Outfall-7. It was constructed to meet the latest norms stipulated by Central and State Pollution Control Boards for discharge of treated sewage.
Built on the latest Moving Bed Bio Reactor (MBBR) technology, the STP will treat the sewage water with modern and advanced equipments in different units of the plant viz. Collection & Coarse Screen Chamber, Raw Sewage Sump and Pump House, Primary Clarifier, Anoxic Tanks, MBBR Tanks, Sludge Holding Tank, Treated Sewage Collection Tank, Chemical House and Lab Building, Various Pump Houses. Messers Hydrotech Paryavaran India Pvt Ltd. (HPIPL) has executed the job under the supervision of Projects Department of RSP.
