On the second and final day of his visit to Himachal Pradesh, President Ram Nath Kovind visited the Atal Tunnel Rohtang (ATR), which connects the districts of Kullu and Lahul Spiti.
On arrival, President Kovind was accorded a traditional welcome at Sisu helipad in Lahaul Spiti. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur welcomed him by presenting him with a Thanka painting. Governor Rajendra Arlekar and State Minister Ram Lal Markandawere also present on the occasion.
President Kovind visited Atal Tunnel from Noth Portal of Lahaul valley to South Portal of Kullu district. After visiting the ATR, President Kovind expressed his happiness over the extremely highly advanced construction of the tunnel. He said, the future of the nation is connected with ATR. He added, that the more the infrastructure increases the more the nation will progress.
It may be recalled that the Atal Tunnel Rohtang, which connects Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti districts, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 3rd October 2020. The 9.2-kilometre long Atal Tunnel Rohtang is the world’s longest highway single tube tunnel located at above 10,000 feet.
