According to media sources, Home Minister Amit Shah today said that all 8 states of the North East will be connected to Delhi through rail and air connectivity by 2027. Addressing the Unity Utsav—One Voice, One Nation in New Delhi today, Mr. Shah underscored that the central government has opened numerous avenues for the Northeast in every field, from tourism to technology and sports to space. He said that the reduction of 70 percent in violent incidents and 85 percent in civilian casualties in the Northeast under the NDA government indicates that, along with the establishment of peace in the region, cultural development is also taking place.
Mr. Shah emphasised that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a new dimension to the identity of the North East in the whole of India by establishing it as Ashtalakshmi. He added that from economic and cultural development to sports, education, agriculture, and entrepreneurship, work has been done to open the doors of unlimited opportunities for the youth of the Northeast in every field. He noted that the Northeast is a priceless treasure of rich heritage for the whole of India. He said that the whole country takes pride in the heritage of North East, India; without North East and North East without India is incomplete.
The Home Minister mentioned that since 2014, more than 10,500 militants have laid down their arms in the North-East, and 12 peace accords have been signed in the region between 2019 and 2024. He said that many disputes had been going on in the region for decades, but the Modi government took two steps forward and made the youth believe that a lot of opportunities are available for them. The Union Home Minister also appealed to the youth indulging in violence to lay down their arms and join the mainstream.
Mr. Shah also emphasised that Sports for All and Sports for Excellence have become the formula for the development of sports in India. Highlighting the Unity Utsav organized by Assam Rifles in collaboration with the North East Association for Social Welfare (NEASW), Mr. Shah said that this five-day celebration of Unity Utsav in Delhi showcased the unity and cultural richness of the North East. During the event, the Home Minister also presented awards to high achievers.
