According to media sources, BJP today accused Congress of trying to create confusion on the caste census. Party spokesperson Sambit Patra told the media in New Delhi that Congress and its allies were in power for over six decades, but they never conducted a caste census. He said it will be the first time that the BJP-led government is going to conduct the caste census. Mr Patra added that the exercise is not for polarisation but for policy transformation.
Earlier in the day, Congress asked the government to announce a timeline for every stage of the caste survey. The Congress Working Committee, in its meeting in New Delhi, passed a resolution in this regard. Two days back, the central government announced that the caste enumeration will be included in the forthcoming population census.
