New Delhi: India’s second-largest government-owned downstream oil producer, Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) is going to utilise its current financial year in a big way, as the company is planning to build 240 MW of renewable power capacity.
According to the sources, the project will include major states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra for solar and wind energy farms. It is also mentioned that the cost for further will be around Rs 1600 crore in Financial year 2024.
Moving forward on that the oil producer is eying to explore more opportunities in organic and inorganic, and to initiate tendering procedure. As the company mentioned, BPCL’s goal for 2023 is to reach 1 GW. The capacities being built in the short term would be to meet the company’s captive demand, primarily from refineries and a proposed petrochemical unit.
Recently the company in January inked an agreement with Rajasthan Government to set up a renewable energy power plant and has also taken up a 20 MW green hydrogen project at its Bina refinery in Madhya Pradesh.
Also, to meet the company’s capital expenditure it will invest Rs 14,000 crore in the ongoing Fiscal Year, which will be utilised accordingly, around Rs. 7000 Crore in expanding operations in the natural gas and retailing segment.
