According to media sources, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken action to dismantle a sophisticated virtual asset-supported cybercrime network that has been targeting German nationals since 2021. In this regard, the CBI conducted searches at six locations across Delhi, Kolkata, and Siliguri from the 14th to the 17th of February. The raids revealed that this transnational, cyber-enabled financial crime network was channelling the proceeds of crime through virtual assets. The operation was executed as part of the ongoing OPERATION CHAKRA-IV in close coordination with German authorities. During the searches, the agency arrested one accused in Siliguri. Around 7 mobile phones, 1 laptop, and incriminating documents related to the crime were recovered during raids at his residence. The CBI also unearthed an illegal call centre operated by the accused in Darjeeling, West Bengal. During the search, 24 hard disks of computer systems containing incriminating digital evidence were recovered.
