Central Fund for National Health Mission Sees 185% Growth in Last 10 Years: Union Minister JP Nadda

According to media sources, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has said that the central fund released under the National Health Mission has witnessed a significant growth of 185 percent during the last ten years. Addressing the media over the achievements under the Mission, Mr. Nadda said that the central fund has increased from over 18 thousand crore rupees to over 33 thousand and 433 crore rupees in the last ten years. He also said that India’s Maternal Mortality Ratio, which was 556 per one lakh live births in 1990, has come down to 97 in 2020. He also mentioned that the country has achieved the National Health Policy target of a maternal mortality ratio of 100 per live births. He added that eight states have also achieved the Sustainable Development Goal target of less than 70 per live births.

The health minister reported a significant decline in the country’s infant mortality rate, from 89 per thousand in 2000 to 28 in 2020. Mr. Nadda also highlighted the growth of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, with over 175,000 now operating, compared to just 17,149 in 2018. In response to a question, the health minister emphasised that the government prioritises healthcare, assuring that funding is not a concern.
