Cyclone Montha to Intensify into Severe Storm, IMD Issues Red Alert for Odisha, Andhra and Chhattisgarh

According to media sources, The Indian Meteorological Department has said that cyclone storm Montha is likely to move north-northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by tomorrow morning. It is expected to cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada during tomorrow evening or night as a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kilometer per hour gusting to 110 kilometer per hour. Therefore, IMD has advised fishermen not to venture around these places till 29th of this month.
Meanwhile, the weather agency has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh for the next two days.
According to the Met department, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Telangana till tomorrow. Similar conditions will prevail over Coastal Karnataka, East Rajasthan, Gangetic West Bengal, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Kerala, Mahe, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, North Interior Karnataka and Vidarbha.
IMD has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, West Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, and Rajasthan till 30th of this month.
