According to media sources, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today said that this year’s Delhi Budget has seen a 31.58 per cent increase from the previous year, with a total allocation of one lakh crore rupees. Addressing the media after presenting the budget for the financial year 2025-26 in the Delhi Assembly, Ms Gupta said the education sector has witnessed a 17 per cent growth, with a total allocation of 19 thousand 291 crore rupees as compared to the previous year’s budget of 16 thousand 396 crore rupees. She also mentioned that the government has increased the budget for the transport sector by 73 per cent. The budget for Housing and Urban Development has risen by 9 per cent.
This was the first budget of the newly formed BJP-led Delhi government. While presenting the budget in the house, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who also holds the finance portfolio, announced that the capital expenditure of over 28 thousand crore rupees has been allocated in the budget, which is almost double from the previous budget. The state government’s flagship scheme, Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, also received an allocation of 51 hundred crore rupees in the budget. Over 12 thousand crore rupees have been allocated to the transport sector, while 9 thousand crore rupees have been allocated for clean drinking water and sanitation. The government has also provided an outlay of hundred crore rupees in the budget to establish Atal Canteen at 100 different locations in the national capital.
Ms Gupta also announced that 50 thousand CCTV cameras would be installed across the capital for women’s safety. She added that financial aid of three thousand two hundred crore rupees would be provided for senior citizens and the handicapped. The Chief Minister termed this budget historic and the biggest budget so far. She added that it is the roadmap for development with ten focus areas like infrastructure, development, electricity, roads, and water. She also laid stress on investment and said that the provisions and schemes introduced in the budget would make Delhi a global infrastructure hub.
