According to media sources, The Directorate General of Quality Assurance under the aegis of Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence is celebrating 68th DGQA day today. The organisation provides Quality Assurance cover for the entire range of Arms, Ammunitions, Equipments and Stores supplied to the Armed Forces.
Apart from quality assurance activities, the organisation is responsible for import substitution and associates with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in the development projects. It also ensures Documentation, Codification and Standardisation Action for minimizing the variety of components and equipment.
Though, the origin of the DGQA dates back to 1869, when the first Inspectorate was set up at Ammunition Factory, Kirkee, the organisation came into its present incarnation in 1957 when Maj Gen Pratap Narain was appointed as the first Director General on 27 September 1957.
On the occasion of the 68th DGQA Day, Director General N Manoharan has extended greetings and best wishes to all officers, staff, retired personnel & families of Directorate General of Quality Assurance.
In an exclusive conversation with Akashvani, the DG said, under the Make in India policy, several government schemes have been launched to streamline Quality Assurance procedures, reduce inspection time & grant greater autonomy to suppliers.
