According to media sources, In Himachal Pradesh, normal life has been severely disrupted due to heavy monsoon rains. On one hand, rivers and streams are in spate, while on the other, incidents of landslides and house collapses are on the rise.
In Sirmaur district, the Yamuna River is flowing above the danger mark, and the administration has deployed divers here. In Kinnaur district, the rising water level of the Sutlej River has forced a halt in construction work on the 450 MW Shongtong hydropower project. So far, 44 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents across the state, while 5 individuals are still reported missing. Landslides have disrupted traffic on 259 roads, and 130 drinking water supply schemes have also been affected. The state government has directed the district administrations of Mandi, Kullu, and Kangra to monitor all major dams closely.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in several parts of the state until July 5. The administration has also appealed people to remain vigilant, stay away from rivers and streams, and avoid unnecessary travel.
