According to Media Sources, India and Bangladesh have agreed to undertake joint efforts to curb trans-border crime by adopting extra precautionary measures such as increasing Coordinated Patrols, enhancing vigilance and sincere commitments. The agreement came in a joint statement issued today by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) upon completion of the four-day Director General (DG) level of border conference at BGB’s Pilkhana Headquarters in Dhaka. The Indian delegation was headed by Daljit Singh Chawdhary, Director General BSF and the Bangladesh delegation was headed by Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Director General, BGB. Both sides also agreed to undertake joint efforts to bring down the number of incidents of assault/border crime by intensifying public awareness programs, undertaking appropriate socio-economic developmental programs in vulnerable areas, educating the border population about the sanctity of the International Border (IB) and preventing criminals/inhabitants from crossing the IB, said the press release issued by the BSF on Thursday. Highlighting the importance of Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP) in curbing the menace of smuggling various types of drugs and narcotics, fire arms, ammunitions, explosives, gold, fake Indian currency note (FICN) and other contraband items, both sides agreed to remain cautious and steadfast to stop smuggling through sharing of real time information, investigation reports of traffickers and remaining extra vigilant to curb such crimes.
As Per Media Sources, During the meeting, both sides agreed to take effective measures to prevent border populace from engaging in cross-border crimes such as illegal intrusion, smuggling, human trafficking, breaching with border pillars and other trans-boundary offences. The press release also said that the both sides mutually agreed to constructively engage the respective higher authorities for concurrence of the pending developmental work within 150 yards of IB. Both sides also agreed to facilitate river bank protection works along the common bordering rivers as approved by the Joint River Commission based on mutual consensus and without unnecessary hindrance, it added. BSF stressed upon the agenda for early construction of Single Row Fence (SRF), which does not have defence potential and it will be an important measure for curbing and preventing trans-border crimes. Both sides agreed to follow the laid down procedure while erecting Single Row Fence, the press release said. Both delegations reiterated their ‘Zero Tolerance’ stance against any armed insurgent groups operating across the border and agreed to take necessary measures to prevent any kind of terrorist activities through real-time information sharing. The highest-level talks between Border Security Force India and Border Guard Bangladesh are held twice every year – once each in India and Bangladesh, which facilitates both the border guarding forces to establish robust systems through which cooperation in Border Guarding and Border Management is ensured. India and Bangladesh share a civilizational and cultural heritage. Last coordination conference between both the forces was held in New Delhi from 17th to 20th February 2025.
