INDIA-UAE held the first Inter-Ministerial meet for the India-Middle East Europe Corridor (IMEEC)

As per the media reports India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) held meetings from May 15 to 17 under the Intergovernmental Framework for Cooperation for the Empowerment and Operationalization of IMEEC. The first inter-ministerial delegation from New Delhi had reached Abu Dhabi.

The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) will provide an effective alternative route to create efficiencies and reduce costs. Indian Ambassador to UAE Sanjay Sudhir held discussions with key entities such as DP World UAE, AD Ports Group and the Federal Customs Authority of UAE.

The Indian delegation included senior officials from the Ministry of Shipping, Ports and Waterways, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Central Board of Excise and Customs and Deendayal Upadhyay Port, Kandla. The delegation visited Khalifa Port, Fujairah Port and Jebel Ali Port, where they held detailed discussions with the respective port authorities to facilitate the movement of goods to India and the UAE and beyond. He also held meetings with UAE Customs officials.

As per the reports the Indian Embassy said-The visit, which took place within three months of the signing of the agreement, shows the importance attached to the IMEEC project by both governments. The corridor will provide effective alternative supply routes. This will create efficiency and reduce costs. Both sides agreed to continue discussions for early implementation of agreement.
