India’s ties with Indian Ocean region nations strong, comprehensive: MoS Kirti Vardhan Singh

According to media sources, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh has said that India’s political relations with countries of the Indian Ocean Region are strong, and trade and investment ties are being augmented. He said development projects and infrastructural cooperation are progressing with the countries, and there is broad-based engagement across all sectors. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha yesterday, Mr Singh said the Government closely monitors all developments in the Indian Ocean Region impinging on India’s security and economic interests and takes appropriate measures to safeguard India’s interests.

The Minister said that India’s relations with countries in the region are comprehensive and long-standing, based on merit and are independent of their relations with any third countries. He said, countries such as Sri Lanka, Maldives and Mauritius occupy a central place in India’s Neighbourhood First Policy and MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) vision.​
