According to media sources, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in joint US-Israel airstrikes targeting military and government sites, as confirmed by Iranian state media today. Iran’s chief of army staff General Abdol Rahim Mousavi and Defense Minister General Aziz Nasirzadeh were also killed in a strike on a defense council meeting, alongside the Revolutionary Guard head and security adviser Ali Shamkhani. Iran has declared 40 days of state mourning with at least 201 dead and over 700 injured, including around 40 officials.
According to media reports, Iran retaliated with strikes reported in Dubai, Doha, Bahrain, and Kuwait targeting US bases and allies. US President Donald Trump stated Khamenei’s death offers Iran a historic chance for change and affirmed continued heavy bombing. Tensions escalated recently with US warships deployed amid stalled nuclear talks.
