According to media source, Manipur Police has said that a joint team of security forces arrested seven active cadres of the proscribed KCP (Nongdrenkhomba) group during a search operation conducted in Langol Game Village Zone III, Imphal. The operation, Police said was launched early this morning following reliable intelligence reports about the group’s presence in the area, with intentions to carry out extortion and other illegal activities.
As per media reports,the Superintendent of Imphal West district said that the arrested cadres of proscribed groups are connected with various extortion cases related to government employees, businessmen and the general public. The cases of extortion have increased drastically in the State and the Manipur Police has arrested eleven cadres of different insurgent groups within two days in extortion cases. He said that the Manipur Police is considering booking under NSA for extortionists and in extreme cases the Police will hand over the cases to NIA for further investigation.
