Monsoon intensifies in Himachal Pradesh

According to media sources, The pace of the monsoon has once again intensified in Himachal Pradesh. Continuous rainfall and landslides have forced the closure of over 280 roads, including two national highways, across the state. Additionally, 314 power transformers and 221 drinking water schemes are non-functional, affecting normal life. The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall today in Chamba, Kullu, Una, Kangra, Bilaspur, Mandi, and Hamirpur districts of the state.

Akashvani Correspondent reports that according to the Kullu District Police Control Room in Himachal Pradesh, continuous rainfall and a sudden flash flood in the Parvati Valley have partially damaged the cofferdam constructed by the Malana-I Hydroelectric Project. The water level of the Parvati River has also risen, increasing the threat in nearby areas. The Kullu district administration has urged people to remain alert and stay away from rivers, streams, and landslide-prone areas. Meanwhile, in the Lahaul-Spiti district, a flash flood near Jispa has blocked National Highway-303. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is working on a war footing to restore the road. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, the state has so far reported 28 cloudburst incidents, 47 flash floods, and 42 landslides.
