According to media sources, Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita has said that CII BIMSTEC Business Forum is bringing important representatives from the public and private sectors, policy makers and think tanks, industry and academia, trade associations and individual investors on the same platform.
In his address to the Summit in New Delhi Yesterday, Mr. Margherita said that he is also encouraged by the fact that Gender Mainstreaming is part of the agenda of the Business Summit. He added, it is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of development that is not just women-centric but also women-led. Mr. Margherita said that women-led development was also an integral component of India’s G20 Presidency and is imperative for sustainable development.
Mr. Margherita stressed that the BIMSTEC region accounts for almost 25 percent of the world’s population, abundant in resources, both natural and human. He added that BIMSTEC holds a special significance for India, and it lies at the heart of our Neighbourhood First, Act East and SAGAR policies. The Minister said that India is prioritizing skill development and capacity building initiatives to harness the potential of youth.
The first Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) summit is being organised in New Delhi till tomorrow. The Summit aims to foster greater regional collaboration through robust trade and investment relations among the member countries of BIMSTEC. The Ministry of External Affairs said that more than 300 key stakeholders from across the Bay of Bengal region are attending the summit.
BIMSTEC is a group of seven countries. Out of seven, five are from South Asia including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India and Sri Lanka, and two countries from South-East Asia- Myanmar and Thailand.
