According to media sources, Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has emphasized the goal to achieve ‘Net Zero’ carbon emissions for Indian Railways, with 100 per cent electrification slated for completion in the financial year 2025-26. Addressing investors and entrepreneurs at the Global Investors Summit 2025 in Bhopal through video-conferencing, Mr Vaishnaw said that the next objective is to maximize renewable energy procurement. He added that with this vision, Indian Railways has already tied up 1,500 Mega Watt of renewable energy. He said a significant 170 MW Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) was also signed today with the Madhya Pradesh government. He reiterated the government’s strong commitment to a sustainable and green future for the country’s transportation network. Mr Vaishnaw also urged all the States to contribute renewable energy to Indian Railways, emphasizing a collaborative approach to sustainable energy. He also highlighted the record budget of 14 thousand 745 crore rupees allocated to Madhya Pradesh’s railway sector for FY 2025-26.
