According to media source, 20 specially trained security members will be on duty at the G20 venues. Karan, Google, Zorro and their colleagues will be equipped with specialised gear such as night vision glasses, cutely called doggles, even walkie talkies. And every time they sniff out hidden explosives or neutralise hostage takers, they will likely wag their tails because they are four-legged soldiers of the National Security Guard’s elite K-9 squad. As per media reports, The dog unit will be strategically deployed in key summit locations such as Rajghat, ITPO and the Pusa campus besides accompanying house intervention teams during a hostage operation.
The Labradors, German shepherds, Belgian Malinois and cocker spaniels have been waking up at 4am and following a rigorous routine to be able to stand paw-to-toe with NSG commandos. They have been taught to navigate urban terrains and have undergone enhanced odour training for explosive materials and trained to LED light-guided instructions to secure the summit venues.
