Operation Muskaan-XI: Telangana Police rescue 7,600 children from exploitation

According to media sources, Telangana Police rescued over seven thousand 6 hundred children during the last month as part of the nationwide Operation Muskaan-XI initiative. Out of them, 529 are girls. The month-long drive, conducted till 31st July by the Women Safety Wing in coordination with the Women Development and Child Welfare Department, Labour Department, health officials, NGOs, and various child protection units, focused on rescuing children from vulnerable and exploitative environments.

As per officials, among the rescued children, over 3 thousand 7 hundred were from other states, primarily Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan and four were identified as from Nepal.

A staggering 6 thousand 7 hundred were victims of child labour, while others were found begging, living on streets, or trapped in other exploitative employment situations. The authorities also registered over 1700 FIRs and arrested over 17 hundred accused individuals.

The Labour Department also imposed a fine of over 46 lakh rupees under the Minimum Wages Act. As per the rehabilitation efforts made, over 6 thousand 5 hundred children were reunited with their families, and over 26 hundred migrant children have been enrolled in 29 Urban Bridge Schools.
