According to Media Sources, A special court in Jalandhar has sentenced Ranjit Singh Kandola to a nine-year prison term along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh and his wife, Rajwant Kaur Virk for three years of imprisonment and a Rs 25,000 fine on the charges of money laundering under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The court also ordered the confiscation of assets worth Rs 5.94 crore linked to the Kandola family, which were attached by ED in the year 2013. Their son, Bally Singh, a US resident, was acquitted of the charges. “The Hon’ble Special Judge (PMLA), Jalandhar passed conviction order on 13.08.2024 under Sections 4 of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 against Ranjit Singh @ Raja Kandola and his wife Rajwant Kaur Virk in a case of money laundering and sentenced Ranjit Singh @ Raja Kandola to nine years of rigorous imprisonment and Rajwant Kaur Virk to three years of rigorous imprisonment along with fine of Rs 1 Lakh and Rs 25,000 respectively. Their son Bally Singh, a citizen of United States, has been acquitted of the charges by giving him a benefit of doubt,” as per a press release from the ED.

As Per Media Sources, Ranjit Singh Kandlola was earlier acquitted by the Court in predicate offence case, registered by the Punjab Police, however, he has been found guilty of offence of money laundering by the Hon’ble Special Court (PMLA) and accordingly convicted, as per ED. “ED initiated investigation on the basis of an FIR registered against Ranjit Singh Kandola, his wife Rajwant, their son Bally among others at the Kartarpur Police Station under Sections 22/29 of the NDPS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act and further probed into the inflow of money from foreign accounts under the provisions of PMLA, 2002. In 2015, ED had filed a Chargesheet under the PMLA, 2002 against Kandola, his wife and their son,” the release stated. Further, the Hon’ble court has also ordered for confiscation of assets to the tune of Rs 5.94 Crore related to Kandola family, which were attached by ED in the year 2013.
